This is more in the vein of my interests: contact a book publisher such as Random House which is dead close to college and owns loads of children's book brands like golden books and wangle a live brief to design / illustrate book sleeves and or content.
Go for it. Carefully select your targets and surprise them with your attitude.
You´ll have to be carefull in case time passes an no suitable publication oportunity comes, so that you wont get to do something that your not proud of. You´ll have to set your standards of quality previously.
Jaqs, this starting point seems more you... However, start making calls today to see whether this is possible? They may give you a really dull project, or you may get something that’s right up your street, just start making contact so you know whether to run with it or not. Also, a sleeve won't be enough for an FMP... it will have to be a whole book/ range of promotion material along with other things so bare that in mind. I say this, as Luke’s idea about his aunt didn’t have enough "design" to showcase his talents for an FMP. Similarly, this may have that 'live' element but a cover won't be enough to show all your wonderful talents and strengths off.. All the best of luck, Lisa x
Yeah i agree with lisa that you might need to do the whole book to really show of your skills. I'm not too worried about it being dull as kids books usually have an element of fantasy which you can explore. Really nice idea and i think you could do it beautifully.
Hey Jackie, I'm with the two previous posts in that this is something that you could defo make work, but it should be a complete book or range of promo materials.
I'm think that you might already know this but there are a series of children's book created by the designer Paul Rand and his wife Ann. These books are gorgeous (i think) and are fun to look at, this is a link to a blog with them and then just click on the name of the book to see inside it.
Hey Jacks, Think this is a great idea-Maybe think about creating a series of your own short childrens books like Mr. Men or Little Miss books... maybe they could be for an older target audience say in their twenties "little miss Emo" or "Mr. Punk" using your great illustration style and very simple story lines and do like a series of 5-10 and get them sold in Urban Outfitters or even get them published by a book publisher... Hope this helps! Amalia x

Good luck for the search.

Really good idea, look into it. Like Lisa said, if you could do a whole range/collection that would be amazing! Polly x

This is a link to a short biography and some examples of his work. The 1970 poster for IBM may give you some ideas also.

p.s.-maybe you could get in touch with the Mr. Men publishers and say you have an idea for a series of books for an older audience...
Hey Jackie,
As i said before for you D&AD project. I loved the whole idea of childrens books for adults.
Id love to see more of that on a larger scale?
I feel theres alot of potential with that.
I kinda like the Mr. Men idea, in the sense that it's a whole series. Like a collection.
Anyway, Good luck!
