SAM HARRIS Proposal 2.0

After Tom's comment on my last post about aiming it at 14-17 year olds, I was thinking of a purpose and direction to my project.

Instead of the simple comic idea, design and create a publication aimed at young designers (pre-uni) focusing on design professionals and their work.

My role would be to art direct the project and get the information. Design layout and format/formats of the publication as well as illustrator (of initial storyboards, as well as some final images.)

Keeping with the idea of using professionals work or writings within the publication, I have been looking at McSweeney's Quarterly Concern for inspiration. (www.mcsweeneys.net) Although McSweeney's is a literary review aimed at older readers, it maintains that excitement and wonder of a comic and also showcases artists' and designers' work in alternative and exciting formats such as multimedia inserts in the publication.

The publication aims to appeal to younger designers that want to broaden their awareness of both established and up and coming designers.

It also will enable me to still make use of the proffesional connections mentioned in the previous proposal.

I understand this sounds similar to Justin's brief, but it's much less prescribed to Chelsea and much less of a forum piece. More of a manifesto, if that makes sense.

If not.. It's back to the drawing board.

This is Justin's project aimed at a younger client base?

In response to the comment above, I made sure to look at Justin's project, which as he says is a Guidebook/Handbook for students specifically at chelsea. "The Definitive Chelsea Graphics Guidebook." As he put it.

My proposal is NOT a guide or handbook, rather an annual/"exhibition space"/platform for established designers/artists/design theorists. Not a forum for students.
