Alex Williams - preferred FMP concept

I will redesign a range of traditional tourist's souvenirs to reflect a more modern, multicultural London... i.e. instead of beef-eater teddy bears I'll make kebab-eater bears... "mind the gap" ashtrays and t-shirts in multiple languages... or a kaftan that says "My mom went to East London and all I got was this lousy kaftan." (These are just some initial ideas.) The products will be light-hearted, funny and sometimes sarcastic, but also give much-deserved consideration to London's more cosmopolitan characteristics.

I like this idea, I think it has the potential to be really visual, Not sure how you could develop it further for a 12 week project though. I think I may have already seen the "Mind the gap" ashtray, or something similar, but I like the idea of it being about London as a multicultural city, I think it would be an interesting approach to merchandise for someone that may have never visited London before.

yeh I see potential in this, really nice idea, but would need development to last 12 weeks. Polly x

yeh nice starting point, but as people have already pointed out there needs some longevity and a live element to it whether you produce them for your own 'souvenirs company' or get the backing of an actual company.

Good concept.

In response:
I think I could definately make enough work for myself over 12 weeks by focusing not only on one type of product, but a whole range. (from clothing to ashtrays to postcards, whatever they have in typical souvenir shops - I will design the contemporary, multi-cultural version of London souvenirs.)
As far as the live element goes, I do plan on actually making these products as limited editions and one-offs, to 'sell' in my own souvenir stand (obviously recording the souvenir stand itself as well.)
With that in mind, do you guys feel this project will be a worthy one?
