J Sharp FMP ideas

Been finding it difficult to come up with ideas! I have a couple of ideas for now though...

....HELP NEEDED! I really like the idea of doing the promotional material for a band or solo artist or record store but I'm having difficulty in finding contacts, I am trying to get in contact with a few independent labels but if anyone knows a band or solo artist who needs promo work then would be great to let me know. Thinking of the FMP idea in association with my own career projection then this is exactly what I really would like for my portfolio, Esp Music Photography and Illustration alongside Art direction and organizational skills, cheers.

1. Designing and launching my own fragrance: I thought I could create my own fragrance from designing the bottle to creating the visuals for the promotional material that surrounds the mock-up campaign. The promotional material would include a photo-shoot and packaged samples of the product itself for mailing, maybe a website feat the promo shots? and adverts in the public domain. I would definitely collaborate with a company to get the bottle made and the fragrance mixed and packaged, not sure how too yet though? I am aware that the idea is fairly fashion based, but thinking carefully about how I create the visuals for it satisfies the graphic/ communication side to it. Ideas and contacts would be appreciated, cheers.

2. Superstition: Are you superstitious? Some people are more superstitious than others, from simply not walking under a ladder, smashing a mirror, or wearing a certain color of clothing on a particular day, the fear of getting bad luck can take over peoples lives. Some feel that by simply seeing something is an omen for either good or bad luck to be heading their way. It is interesting to observe just how superstitious people can be. I thought I could research into peoples superstitions by cataloging various habits that they have formed, or even persuade people to break away from their superstitious thoughts with an incentive? Not sure what yet though...suggestions?

3. Preserving a traditions: I had a small idea of investigating British traditions that are slowly fading away, this could include a group of people (Like the Pearly Kings and Queens) or an attraction that is associated with our tradition. Examples include Fairground attractions (When researching fairground attractions I was really interested in the spray painted Illustrations/graphics on the outside of the rides...?) 1960's Holiday parks or simply sitting at the table as a family for a meal is something that is becoming less commonplace (Maybe a menu of conversation starters, or a manual on "table manners"?) I need to focus on one particular thing really, Just some starting points...Any ideas?

4. Making people aware the effects of illegal downloading- As more people continue to illegally download and share copyrighted music on the Internet the demise of the compact disc is believed to be more evident. I was thinking maybe I could try and make people more aware of this issue by projecting the artists concern outwards into the public domain. I thought this could be done through print, Maybe design some posters, leaflets,a flash event....anything to make people more aware that illegal file-sharing is not only illegal but it is infringing the rights of the original creator of the music itself. This isn't political, releasing music on the net is a fantastic and revolutionary means of distribution, its just creating an awareness that its mis-use inevitably effects the artists of new music in a negative way.

Just a few small ideas- I had were something about costumes, Maybe make and wear a costume in the public domain and record peoples reactions, Another one was to make something which is small to be noticed by the public by making it giant size, Rachel Thomas' Blow up sculptures reminded me of this? Just something big, bold and colourful. I like the idea of doing something with lights, not sure how yet but espiecally LED lights etc. Basically I really enjoy the collaborative side to projects and wish to pursue this more.

i think the fragrance would be awesome if you could actually get it sold!! Anneka.

If I manage to get the fragrance made and the promotional work together than that would be the ultimate result, The fragrance wouldn't be from a well known fashion brand etc so I doubt they would be willing to take it up, Some smaller, independent retailers might though or I could sell it through a website? Thanks for that though, Def worth considering!

mate if you really wanna do this fragrance thing, then you have to get it made, or at least look real and try and sell it down one of the many markets in london on some kind of stall and see if your graphic skills will sell it alone, it could be a bottle of water for all they know! you could have one bottle of real-stuff that is a real fragrance - like some diesel/CK or ralph lauren so that people think its good then buy some that is it a sealed box.......

def needs some live element to it.

Thanks for your comment, I agree....I would really like to pursue it with a live element attached to it. I think for the final show (and if I actually get the scent made) I can think of ways of proving that the scent is entirely unique mainly by the way I document the processes involved in making it. I like the market selling idea, It reminds me of how you get 'expensive' products on the market for a bargain despite being fake. The promo around the fragrance I think may have the look of a high-end product then I'm not sure that the market is the place to sell it, I'm still not sure with this idea just yet, Any ideas?

Im thinking it might be quite hard and expensive to get a fragrance made!
what is the reason for making this fragrance in the first place?
I like the superstitions idea, could be really interesting! maybe you could advertise superstitions somehow/somehow get them out there, see how people react to them, make these superstitions known to people and see if they start believing in them, eg. not standing on the cracks on pavements, touching red when you see royal mail vans..... not sure will have more of a think about it.

I agree with Polly. I am not sure about the fragrance idea and am sure there is a lot of planning into getting just the right fragrance made and sold to a profitable level.

As for the superstitions idea. I suggested it at the last big meeting with Geoff... and one of the worries for it was that it was heavily research laden and therefore not enough time would be spent on the visuals...

OK, I didn't realize that about superstitions idea Lisa, May have to re-assess this idea and maybe take a smaller element from it and develop it further, How about the other ideas? Any suggestions as to how to develop those further? Thanks.
