Laura Tabet

Final Major Project

1st Proposal

A Conversation with Michel Harmouch

A 50 year retrospective of one of Beirut's finest architect/painters. The work will be split into three books showcasing his paintings, architecture and product design respectively, and packaged together in a slip case. An interview with the artist will cover the most significant moments of his life, his influences and theories about art and design.

The archives of his vast body of work are still available and have yet to be published despite his fame and recognition. His projects include the execution of hotels, villas, residences, offices, banks, restaurants and museums in Lebanon and abroad. This ranges from designing palaces for the king of Jordan to becoming the official worldwide consultant for the Hilton Hotels Group for many years.

Potential sponsors have already approached my family about making a book about Michel Harmouch, my grandfather, and there is no doubt that such a book (ensuring that it is well designed) will sell like hotcakes in Lebanon. My aim is to get these books made in time for the show and look into getting them published in the UK.

There is some promise here, the key being the production of a strong and contemprary editorial piece, and potential collaboration with a publisher.
Before we go with a green light on this one, can you add a few images of teh artistist/designers work on your blog.

Thank you for forwarding images- it appears to me that the focus of your work would we be promoting 'interior design' rather than architecture or contemporary fine arts. With this in mind, and on the understanding that most images that you use will have been professionally shot already...you will be acting as an editorial designer. Considering the status of the External Examiner- your work will need to be of the highest creative order...how do you feel about this?

I'm very inspired by this project and am confident that I can execute it in a fresh and innovative manner.

I do not want it to be anything less than the highest creative order.
