Holly Benwell

“The hobby of collecting includes seeking, locating, acquiring, organizing, cataloguing, displaying, storing, and maintaining whatever items are of interest to the individual collector.”

The habit of collecting, hoarding and archives expresses personality and sense of personal history through individual's collections. How do people take inspiration from their own collections from the artistic to the everyday? Does this inform artists and designers work and what is the power behind the found image? Collections also have a strong visual aesthetic in their multiples, variants and arrangements. I will produce a print based piece of work based upon both the system and aesthetics of collections and exploring the subject.

My blog with current research is at www.hollybliss.co.uk/fmp

I think this will make a great piece of print work and it will be something that a lot of people can relate to. Also it will show off your other talents away from the web.

hey holly,

here's a website featured in this month's creative review that is spot on with what you're doing. Actually it pretty much is what you're doing, just in website form. the site is devoted to eclectic collections with visual interest. I think most of the contributors are designers as well. check it out:
