'Don't panic, I'm Islamic'

I always hear various scary stories about Islam, the women are all repressed, all Muslims hate America and are homophobic terrorist who think that are a bunch of virgins waiting for them in heaven. Surprisingly, during research for my dissertation, I found that non of this is actually true.

This project is NOT a political message at all, its simply informing people about what most Muslims really believe, to clear up any confusion.

It could be a light hearted amusing illustrated book or starter kit in teaching the differences. It may include flash cards, games, colouring in, introduction video etc. It could be like the lady bird children's books ( but for adults). It's not to patronize but more to highlight the huge differences between beliefs and show how funny and ridiculous these 'stories' are once you learn the truth.

There are a group of people at LCC who are trying to raise awareness on this subject, I plan to contact them and share research which will help with the content of the book/ starter kit.

This is very much a contemporary issue and as far as I know it has not been done before. The audience for this are adults from all different backgrounds and beliefs.

This project is not my 'baby' just an observation so please let me know what you think. Fanks!

Hi Fazza,

Interesting idea, but I'm not sure. Religion is such a touchy subject, it's just not cool, it's not sexy, it's not fun, it's not sexy, I don't think it's inspirational or sexy. I know this thing is really important to you, but your idea doesn't communicate a fresh, exiting, up and coming designer to me, which I think you are. If you make your thing I'm worried it'll be a bit standard and un-interesting. I think you can do a lot better than this Faz.

Erm i would not completely agree with the previous post. I agree to some extent about the subject of religion but i'm not sure whether a FMP has to be sexy, cool or fun. There are different ways of reflecting your skills and interests in a project. Overall, you need to be really careful about your illustrations as you are mixing the religion with design in a fun way.
